What actually made the kitchen feel like mine

Not a renovation. A handful of small, undoable-feeling changes that added up.

Neké Akua laughing barefoot on her kitchen island in lavender tie-dye loungewear, holding a pink mug in a bright modern kitchen with walnut cabinets.

The small stuff

I couldn't touch the cabinets, the counters, or the layout — landlord rules, fair enough. What I could touch: the mugs on open shelving, a runner that isn't beige, and exactly one plant that's survived long enough that I trust it now. None of it cost much. All of it is the reason the room reads as mine instead of as whoever had it before me.

The barefoot-on-the-island-with-coffee mornings didn't happen until the space stopped feeling like it belonged to the lease. Small changes, but they were the ones that mattered.

Let’s Be Friends

Once a month I send the things that didn’t make it to the grid — the hotel I’d actually rebook, what I’m cooking on repeat, the one thing I bought and don’t regret.

No spam — just what I’m loving each month.
